The Canon iPF500, iPF600, and iPF700 printers feature a new ink system that supports four dye-based color inks and a 2-channel Matte black pigment ink. The use of dual Matte black inks doubles the black density and printing speed. When printing, four colors can be applied simultaneously, as the printer driver automatically selects either Matte black or regular black based on the media type. Matte black will be used for plain or matte media, while the dye-based black will be used for coated or glossy papers.

The printers automatically switch between regular black and Matte black during the printing process. Simply choose the paper type, and the printer will use the appropriate black ink to optimize print quality. The regular black ink produces high-quality prints on photo glossy media, while the Matte black ink exhibits deep, high-contrast prints on fine art papers.
